Reed Elsevier announces appointment of Mark Popolano as Chief Technology Officer

Reed Elsevier announced today the appointment of Mark Popolano to the position of Chief Technology Officer.  Mr Popolano, who joins Reed Elsevier on Monday 26 March, will report to Reed Elsevier chief executive Sir Crispin Davis and will be based in the company’s offices in New York. He will also join the Reed Elsevier Management Committee.

Mark joins Reed Elsevier from the Fortune 10 insurance organisation American International Group (AIG) where he held the top technology position of Corporate Senior Vice President and Global Chief Information Officer.

Commenting on Mr Popolano’s appointment, Sir Crispin Davis said: “Mark brings substantial experience in leading business, web-based and enterprise application delivery within both the insurance and financial IT sectors, as well as significant experience in leading international data centre infrastructures. He is widely recognised for his technological leadership and has received many industry awards as a result. I believe Mark will be an excellent appointee to this critical role and will capably drive our change agenda in this important area.”

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Gerard van de Aast for his interim leadership of the technology organisation during the search process. Mark joins us on the 26th March at which point Gerard will relinquish his interim CTO responsibilities after a short handover period.
